A Closer Look at Piper PA-28-180R Cherokee Arrow VH-PBA

An interesting report from a contributor about a frequent sight around Central Queensland Airports in the form of 1968-build Piper PA-28R-180 VH-PBA.

The aircraft is powered by a Textron Lycoming IO-360 piston engine which is capable of propelling the small Piper to a speed of approximately 130 knots, and it is easily capable of cruising at 10000 feet.  The pilot commented that the maximum altitude he has flown in the plane is 9500 feet.

Readers of the CQ Plane Spotting Blog may have noted that VH-PBA has spent a lot of time in recent years hired/leased to Peace Aviation in Rockhampton.  Peace Aviation frequently utilised the plane to fly passengers to and from Great Keppel Island when the resort there was still operational.  In fact, it was common for VH-PBAto be utilised for up to 45 hours per month.  These dropped significantly however when the resort closed down, and Peace Aviation redeployed the aircraft on other duties.
