The Mackay Daily Mercury newspaper has also profiled and welcomed two new firefighters at Mackay Airport's Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Station.

Self-described as one of the best crews, Mackay Airport's firefighters work 14-hour shifts and perform continuous training, as well as attending emergencies such as:
•Aviation emergencies
•Medical emergencies
•First aid
•Fire alarms
•Warning lights on planes
•Bush fires
•House fires
