It's the School Holidays and we are off to The Qantas Founders Outback Museum (QFOM) at Longreach Airport!

It's the school holidays!!  And being teachers, my wife and I have made plans to spend a couple of nights of our holidays at Longreach next week - and of course we will be spending some time at The Qantas Founders Outback Museum (QFOM) at Longreach Airport!

The QFOM is literally a stone's throw away from the Longreach Airport terminal building in Central Western Queensland.  The Museum continues to change and expand - with the prominent aircraft being Boeing B747-200 VH-EBQ and Boeing B707 VH-XBA clearly visible alongside the Longreach Airport parking apron.

Nearby is the Museums latest acquisition in the form of Consolidated PBY Catalina VH-EAX.. It appears to be currently undergoing restoration work.

Near the Museum building is DC-3 VH-EAP, along with the original Qantas hangar which is also also open to visitors and is home to other smaller aircraft and displays.

The photos featured in this post are courtesy of a Mark H in Sydney who visited Longreach a couple of months ago.  He took tours of B747-200 VH-EBQ and B707 VH-XBA - which included time in the flightdecks of these wonderful old aeroplanes!

Thanks mate for the opportunity to share your wonderful images!

The Museum is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm (except Christmas Day) and is located at Longreach Airport, Sir Hudson Fysh Drive, Longreach, Qld, 4730.  The Museum website can be found HERE.
