Military Exercise Talisman Saber 2013: More Action from Rockhampton Airport on Saturday - USAF C-37A & MC-130P and USN C-40A & C-130T

A great morning of aircraft action at Rockhampton Airport on Saturday 27 July, with Military Exercise Talisman Saber 2013 in full swing, and local plane spotter 'IAD' was on hand to catch most of it!.  Arriving early at the Airport he spotted the United States Air Force (USAF) Gulfstream Aerospace C-37A (G-V) bizjet 01-0054 still sitting on the Northern end of the parking apron (military hardstand) after it arrived the previous evening - see Blog post below.

01-0065 eventually departed Rockhampton for Brisbane, again using the radio callsign of "Spar 65".

USAF Lockheed MC-130P Hercules 66-0225 was also captured by 'IAD' as it arrived and departed at Rockhampton Airport.  The Herc is part of the 17th Special Operations Squadron (17th SOS) based at the Kadena Air Force Base in Japan, and is one of four such aircraft that have been based at Townsville, but made regular visits to Rockhampton during the Exercise.  66-0225 was heard to be using the radio callsign of "Stilt 14" during its visit on Saturday.

United States Navy (USN) transport aircraft are also becoming familiar visitors to Rockhampton Airport.  On Saturday 27 July, USN Lockheed C-130T Hercules - serial 165160 - coded JW5160 - of the VR-62 Fleet Logistic Unit was pictured trying to depart as "Convoy 7422", however on as many as three occasions, the Herc was forced to abort its take off due to engine problems.  It is believed that 165160 has remained at Rockhampton overnight.

Meanwhile, USN Boeing C-40A Clipper (B737-7AFC) 165834 / JV-834 of the VR-58 Fleet Logistics Support Squadron, was again captured at Rockhampton Airport, this time it was heard to be flying as "Convoy 7781".

Finally, some Australian Defence Force (ADF) aircraft action on Saturday 27 July with Royal Australian Navy (RAN) marked NH Industries MRH-90 Multi-Role Helicopter A40-002 spotted parked along the helicopter flight line (Runway 04/22) at Rockhampton Airport.

'IAD' also captured some fantastic images of A40-002 on Friday 26 July as it arrived into Rockhampton Airport.

And finally, Royal Australian Air Force Hawker Beechcraft B350 Super King Air A32-673 was photographed as it called into Rockhampton Airport.

Thanks to 'IAD' for his great coverage of a truly great time for plane spotters at Rockhampton Airport!
