Firefighters reportedly rushed onboard the aircraft after it landed safely, and two crew members and one passenger were treated for minor smoke inhalation. Thirty three passengers on board were to continue their journey to Gladstone on another Dash-8-Q400.
It is expected that VH-QOT will undergo an engineering inspection to determine the source of the fumes.
It should be noted that VH-QOT sustained minor damage after a tail strike incident at Brisbane Airport on Tuesday 5 November 2013. VH-QOT was operating as QLK2545 from Roma when after landing at Brisbane the flight crew noticed a ‘Touched Runway’ warning light on the flight deck.
