Dash-8s galore at Rockhampton Airport on Saturday 8 March - including a pair of Skytrans Dash-8-100s which arrived into the beef capital carrying the Northern Pride Rugby League team from Cairns to take on the local Central Queensland Capras in the Queensland Rugby League's Intrust Super Cup
First to touch down from Cairns was VH-QQI as SKP1038. It later departed back to Cairns as SKP1039.
Then VH-QQL also touched down from Cairns, but as SKP1040. It too later departed back to Cairns - via Townsville - as SKP1041.
Local plane spotter 'IAD' was on hand to capture the arrival of the Dash-8s as they dropped off the Pride into Rockhampton.
Before he left, 'IAD' was fortunate enough to also capture some great photos of Surveillance Australia / Australian Customs and Border Protection Service Dash-8-200 VH-ZZJ as it returned to Rockhampton Airport after earlier departing on a sortie.
The Dash-8 is operated by Cobham Aviation and is one of a 13-strong fleet of fixed-wing surveillance aircraft, which are supported by several helicopters operating over the Northern half of Australia.
VH-ZZJ was parked on the Northern end of the Rockhampton Airport apron, and was heard to be using the radio callsign of "Customs 88".
Along with the usual QantasLink Dash-8s that called into Rockhampton on Saturday morning, as the photos above and below show, it was certainly 'Dash-8 Central' at Rocky!
Sincere thanks to 'IAD' for capturing these great photos of some great visitors at Rockhampton!
By the way, the Capras were beaten by the Pride!
