Preparations Begin at Rockhampton Airport for the Singapore Armed Force's Exercise Wallaby 2013

Local plane spotters are reporting that preparations are beginning around Rockhampton Airport for the Singapore Armed Force's Exercise Wallaby 2013, which is scheduled to kick-off next week.

The annual Exercise combines elements of the Republic of Singapore Army (RSA) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).  Rockhampton Airport is usually a staging point for most of the RSAF helicopters involved in the Exercise - such as Boeing AH-64D Apache and Eurocopter / Aerospatiale AS332M Super Puma choppers as shown below at Rockhampton Airport last year.

And in great news for the Exercise, there are reports that RSAF General Dynamics (Lockheed Martin) F-16 fighter jets will be back at Rockhampton Airport for a short time during this year's Exercise, which is due to officially start on Monday 30 September, and run through to December.

Also of interest to local plane spotters is that Rockhampton Airport acts as the major port for inbound and outbound heavy-jet troop and cargo charters.  It has been reported that during this coming week, Rockhampton Airport will play host two Antonov AN-124 arrivals bring helicopters and other equipment for the Exercise.

Reports also suggest that in 2013, troop charter flights into Rockhampton Airport will be operated by Singapore Airlines , Air New Zealand, and Qantas.
