It has also been reported that Jetstar will also now offer 10 peak period weekly flights to Brisbane from this week, and also increase weekly flights from Melbourne from three to four flights from March 2017.
The new flights will mean an extra 170,000 visitors to the region each year and millions to the local economy. In the year ending September 2016, 508,000 domestic travellers visited the Whitsunday region and its 74 islands, while 229,000 people headed there from overseas.
Tigerair Australia also announced in October that they will provide an 55,000 extra seats per year to Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport, increasing the number of flights from Sydney and introducing flights from Brisbane - see referring Blog post HERE.
