Local plane spotter Travis W has sent through some photos from a great afternoon of plane spotting at Rockhampton Airport on Sunday 25 August - including more magnificent images of the awesome United States Marine Corps (USMC) Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotar aircraft which remained parked on the Northern end of the Airport apron from Saturday (see Blog Post below).
As mentioned, the two Ospreys have been noted as 168217 / EP-01 and 168032 / EP-09, which are both of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (VMM-265) "Dragons".
168217 / EP-01 was believed to have had maintenance issues, and was photographed by Travis as it departed Rockhampton Airport on a local test flight as "Dragon 01".
168032 / EP-09 remained on the ground with its massive rotars folded away.
168217 / EP-01 returned shortly after.
After this flight, word around Rockhampton Airport was that the Ospreys were due to depart Rockhampton during the afternoon, however by 5pm, the Ospreys had been closed up and looked to be remaining at the Airport for the night.
In the meantime, Travis captured some of the other arrivals into Rockhampton Airport during the afternoon on Sunday 25 August including Surveillance Australia / Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (Cobham Aviation) Dash-8-202 VH-ZZB.
Alliance Airlines Fokker F-100 VH-XWR was also captured parked on the Rockhampton Airport apron after touching down operating a scheduled service for QantasLink as UTY2366.
Locally-based Cessna 150H VH-IOJ was captured by Travis as it performed circuits on Rockhampton Airport's Runway 04.
Lastly, Bell 206B VH-FYH of Stirling Helicopters (Stirling Consolidated) of Theordore was also spotted as it returned to Rockhampton Airport late in the afternoon.
Stirling Helicopters reported maintains at least one helicopter at Rockhampton Airport, with fellow Bell 206 VH-JAQ spotted quite regularly at the Airport.
My sincere thanks to Travis for sending through his magnificent photos from a great afternoon!
