Virgin Australia Commences Scheduled Services to Hamilton Island Airport from Melbourne
On Thursday 15 August, Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800 VH-YIR operated the airline's first direct flight between Melbourne and Hamilton Island Airport.
The much publicised VOZ1751/1754 service - operated by Boeing B737-800s fitted with eight business class and 168 economy class seats - will see Virgin Australia become the first airline to offer business class on the route since 2004.
A Virgin Australia spokesperson was quoted as saying that “Melbourne to Hamilton Island has been a monopoly route for many years and we are very pleased to be bringing competition to the market.”
The VOZ1751 flight will depart Melbourne at 8.30am on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, arriving into Hamilton Island at 11.30am. The return VOZ1754 flight departs Hamilton Island at 12.00pm midday on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday arriving into Melbourne at 3.00pm. During off-peak months (between February and June), services will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
