Australian Army Boeing CH-47F 'Foxtrot' Chinook Helicopters A15-305 & A15-306 Spotted at Emerald Airport Heading South to Victorian Flood Zone

On Monday 17 October, a pair of Australian Army Boeing CH-47F 'Foxtrot' Chinook helicopters A15-305 and A15-306 was spotted on the ground at Emerald Airport.  They looked to arrive direct from Townsville.

After taking on fuel the Chinook helicopters departed Emerald Airport for the Oakey Army Aviation Centre.

It appears they are flying further South to provide Australian Defence Force (ADF) assistance with the response to the growing flooding crisis in Victoria.

Following a request for assistance from National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Australian Defence Force is providing support to the Victorian Government’s response to the current flood event.

Operation Flood Assist 22-2 has been established as part of the Whole of Commonwealth Government response to flooding in Victoria and New South Wales. Personnel, equipment, high clearance vehicles and helicopters are supporting emergency authorities in assisting affected communities, with support broadly comprising flood preparation activities such as sand bagging, welfare checks, evacuation support, transport, logistics resupply, access assistance and initial recovery support. The ADF remains postured to provide additional support to State Emergency Services should requests be received via National Emergency Management Australia.
