More Pictures of Local Operators at Whitsunday Airport

This post presents some more pictures I took last week at The Whitsunday Airport near Airlie Beach / Shute Harbour.

Air Whitsunday Seaplanes is the major operator at The Whitsunday Airport, flying the largest seaplane fleet in the Southern Hemisphere, consisting of three Cessna 208 and two De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver float planes.

Air Whitsunday Seaplanes operates various daily tours around the Whitsundays, and they can also transfer passengers directly from their domestic flight arrival to their chartered yacht.

Air Whitsunday Seaplanes also recently flew a Gippsland Aeronautics GA-8 Airvan on transfers exclusively between Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island, although this has ceased, and GSL Aviation has commenced operations on this and other transfer and scenic flight services - see Blog Post HERE.

One of the other familiar sights at The Whitsunday Airport is the Skydive Airlie Beach aircraft operating one of their frequent sorties and dropping a group of keen and eager tourists out over the airport.

Skydive Airlie Beach currently operates two aircraft - Cessna 182 VH-JOU and Gippsland Aeronautics GA-8 Airvan VH-RTS (which as shown below has recently acquired some attractive titles!).

Some lovely photos of 'the best drop zone in the world' can be found, along with more information and prices on the Skydive Airlie Beach website (http://www.skydiveairliebeach.com.au/), or more information can be obtained by phoning (07) 4946 9115 or 0418 762 315.

  1. Hi Damian, Great post and accompanying pictures. You have a very comprehensive website on aircraft activity throughout Queensland... keep it up. And for anyone who is interested in more information on Air Whitsunday they can visit the website http://www.airwhitsunday.com.au
