Virgin Australia Launches Emerald Airport Flights Today
A momentous day at Emerald Airport on Monday 16 January as Virgin Australia launched its much anticipated Emerald to Brisbane services, with Skywest Airlines operated ATR 72-500 VH-FVH touching down at 7.35am as DJ1255 from Brisbane.
The ATR then pulled into Gate 1 at Emerald Airport – while the morning QantasLink Dash-8-Q400 was forced onto Gate 2 – and the new ground handling unit swung into gear as the first passengers to fly into Emerald with Virgin Australia stepped off out the back of the ATR.
After a quick turnaround, VH-FVH was ready to accept the first passengers (including me!) out of Emerald Airport for Brisbane with Virgin Australia.
DJ1256 lifted off Emerald’s Runway 06 right on time, before landing at Brisbane a little late – courtesy of the very inclement weather.
Later in the day, ATR 72-500 VH-FVL operated the late afternoon DJ1261 to Emerald Airport. I took a couple of photos of it on the ground in Brisbane, and again shortly after I left the plane at Emerald, as it was prepared for departure back to Brisbane as DJ1262.
Blog readers can look forward to a full trip report, including heaps more photos, in the coming days!!
