Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800 VH-YFK Calls into Gladstone Airport as Figures Released Show Virgin Cancels 1 in 14 Flight from the Port City!

On Wednesday 5 October, Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800 VH-YFK was noting calling into Gladstone Airport, operating the VOZ1707/1710 early morning service from and back to Brisbane.

A Little later in the morning, Virgin Australia Embraer E-190 VH-ZPO was also noted operating into Gladstone Airport but on the mid-morning VOZ1709/1712 service also from and back to Brisbane.

Of interest, there was only one other Virgin Australia return service from and back to Brisbane on Wednesday 5 October which was operated by ATR 72-500 VH-FVU.  Fellow ATRs VH-FVX and VH-FVM also operated from and to Gladstone Airport respectively on overnighting flights.

Despite the bigger jet aircraft operating into the port city, it appears that no Virgin Australia services were cancelled during the day.

The visits by the larger Virgin Australia jets on Wednesday 5 October came on the same day that the local Gladstone Observer newspaper reported that Virgin Australia cancels 1 in 14 flights from Gladstone Airport.

During August, Virgin cancelled 7.8% of its 106 flights out of Gladstone.  This compares with rival QantasLink which cancelled just 1% of 185 flights.  Inbound flight cancellation data is similar with QantasLink cancelling 1% of its 200 flights cancelled against 7% of Virgin Australia's 111 flights.
