Some of Tuesday’s Action from Rockhampton Airport

I’m enjoying my holidays and decided to spend a couple of days at Rockhampton Airport – and so far I haven't been disappointed!

Late on Monday 2 July, United States Navy (USN) Boeing B737-7AFC / C-40A Clipper - serial number 165835 - returned to Rockhampton Airport as “Convoy 7342”.

After overnighting, it departed to Cairns.

Also on Tuesday 3 July, I was lucky enough to see all four of the ‘resident’ Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) British Aerospace (BAe) Hawk 127 jets. Pairs of Hawks departed three times during the day on sorties over the Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA), and eventually return to Rockhampton, making an initial pitch before landing.

Pictured below are A27-28 and A27-20 departing in the morning as “Cougar”.

Pictured below are A27-14 and A27-02 departing in the afternoon also as “Cougar”.

Helicopter movements included RAAF Rescue Sikorsky S-76A VH-HRP which is also currently based at Rockhampton Airport supporting the Hawks. VH-HRP departed and returned to Rockhampton Airport as “Chopper 3”.

Australian Army Commonwealth CA-32 (Bell 206B/OH-58A) Kiowa helicopters made fairly regular flights around Rockhampton from the SWBTA. Three Kiowas even landed at Rockhampton Airport on Tuesday 3 July, with A17-031 and A17-038 both noted departing back toward the North – A17-038 was using the callsign “Griffin 51”.

Later Kiowa A17-026 arrived at Rockhampton Airport as “Vigilant 72”.

Careflight Queensland Bell 412 VH-XCF arrived into Rockhampton Airport and is pictured below parked near the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue service Hangar area.

VH-XCF operates medical evacuation flights from SWBTA in support of the current Australian Defence Force (ADF) exercises.
