Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service (CHRS) Bell 412 VH-LSY “Rescue 300” Winch Operations near Mount Archer on Sunday

Local plane spotter ‘IAD’ was involved in a real-life rescue drama late on Sunday 11 August when a woman was injured while hiking on Rockhampton's Mount Archer.

The patient had been walking on one of the designated walking tracks when she fell from a rock ledge. Landing on rocks below, the patient suffered lacerations to her right leg and a suspected fracture.

As a result of difficult terrain, the decision was made by rescuers to winch the victim out rather than carry her out through the bush.  ‘IAD’ was on the scene – actually across the road at his house – and captured some awesome action photos of the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service (CHRS) Bell 412 VH-LSY firstly searching for the victim, and then winching her out, and taking her to Rockhampton Base Hospital.

VH-LSY is operated by Australian Helicopters and was using its usual radio callsign of “Rescue 300” during the rescue.

Sincere thanks to ‘IAD’ for sending trough these fantastic photos!
