As posted below, Qantas Airways Boeing B747-438(ER) VH-OEG completed two visits to Rockhampton Airport this week on behalf of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Local photographer Russell P was also on hand during the week and has shared with us some of his stunning photos!
As mentioned, VH-OEG arrived into Rockhampton Airport during the afternoon on Wednesday 5 June direct from Darwin as QFA1374 after it had earlier positioned up there empty from Sydney as QFA6161. After unloading passengers and cargo, VH-OEG was closed up and parked up for the night.
Then, early on Thursday 6 June, VH-OEG departed Rockhampton Airport for Adelaide as QFA6163.
After collecting a load of Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel and their bags, VH-OEG returned to Rockhampton Airport and made another spectacular arrival back from Adelaide but as QFA1375.
After unloading and a refuel, VH-OEG departed Rockhampton Airport once again, positioning empty to Sydney as QFA6164.
As mentioned, it could also potentially be the final time we see a Qantas 'jumbo jet' in Central Queensland. VH-OEG 'Parkes' is one of seven B747-400 jumbo jets that Qantas still operate. It was the third of six Boeing B747-438(ER)s ordered new by Qantas and was delivered at the end of 2002.
Sincere thanks to the local photographer Russell P for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos of a great visitor to Rockhampton Airport.
