More reliable information is surfacing that there will be an arrival into Rockhampton Airport of a giant Antonov AN-124 transport plane sometime on Saturday 6 September. The aircraft is expected to be an example of Ukrainian-based Antonov Airlines (Antonov Design Bureau) with the aircraft reported to possibly be UR-82008. As shown below, this particular AN-124 has visited Perth, Darwin and Adelaide already this year!

The Antonov is expected to depart late on Sunday 7 September, but then return to Rocky on or around Tuesday 9 September. The Antonov will be bringing some of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) helicopters into Rockhampton Airport for the Singapore Defence Force's Military Exercise Wallaby 2014.
Meanwhile, local plane spotters have been eagerly watching progress on what appears to be a new platform being constructed in the small 'spotting area' South of the main Airport terminal, adjacent to the Virgin Australia and freight company sheds. The platform has recently had an old set of air-stairs fitted and looks to be almost ready for use - just in time for this weekend's Antonov arrival!
Massive congratulations and sincere thanks to the Rockhampton Regional Council for installing this awesome plane spotting and viewing platform!!
Do remember however, that parking your car on the grass verge in this area may result in you receiving a parking fine contravening local laws!! Please obey all signage and directions when visiting Rockhampton Airport.
Stay tuned to the CQ Plane Spotting Blog - and our Facebook page and Twitter feed - for all the latest updates on the arrival of the Antonov - and the future arrival of RSAF transport aircraft as well as heavy jet troop charter movements from Singapore!
