United States Air Force (USAF) Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy 87-0030 Arrives at Rockhampton Airport as "Reach 468"

The large military jet action at Rockhampton Airport continued on Sunday 17 September with United States Air Force (USAF) Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy (L-500) 87-0030 touching down from Darwin as "Reach 468".  It had arrived into Darwin from U-Tapao-Pattaya International Airport in Thailand the previous day.

As with the previous visits by sister-ship 87-0032 "Reach 340", this Super Galaxy "Reach 468" taxied in and parked on Gate 6 on the Southern end of the Rockhampton Airport apron.

But unlike its sister-ship, 87-0030 "Reach 468" seems to functioning 'normally' and before the aircraft's power units were shut down, the mighty transport aircraft had its front landing gear raised and the aircraft assumed its distinctive kneeling position in preparation for loading which seems to be occurring on Monday 18 September.  It may also depart after it has been loaded.

As mentioned previously, both Super Galaxies have reportedly came to Rockhampton Airport to transport two Combatant Craft Medium (CCM) Mk 1 Stealth Boats which are operated by the United States Navy SEAL's.

Rumours abound as to whether the Super Galaxy will transport one, or even both, of the Navy SEAL's Shadowy Multi-Mission Stealth Speedboats across one or two flights.

Of interest, the Galaxy 87-0030 is flown by the USAF's 22nd Airlift Squadron (22nd AS) "Mulies" which is part of the 60th Air Mobility Wing based at Travis Air Force Base in California.

It is the 33rd USAF C-5 to be converted to a C-5M 'Super Galaxy' which features new General Electric F138-GE-100 (CF6-80C2) engines, pylons and auxiliary power units, upgrades to aircraft skin and frame, landing gear, pressurisation systems and modernised avionics designed to extend its service life beyond 2040.
