Jet Services to Start as More Virgin Australia Services Announced for Gladstone Airport

A couple of correspondents have emailed me details of plans that Virgin Australia will be increasing the services, as well as upgrading some services to jets, between Gladstone and Brisbane.

The schedule change seems to take place from Monday 28 May, where there is an additional mid-morning service introduced.  One or more of these 4-times-a-day weekday services will also be operated by either a Boeing B737 or Embraer E-190 jet - depending on loads.

This will be the first time a Virgin Australia jet service will land at Gladstone.

I understand that the jet services will only operate during weekdays, with weekend services to remain flown by Skywest Airlines-operated ATR 72-500 aircraft.

There also appears to be plans to introduce an additional weekday service later in mid-June.

These new services are obviously needed as several emails suggest their current ATR flights arrive and depart with pretty full looking loads.
