A pair of the largest and heaviest helicopters in the United States military, the Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion, popped into Rockhampton from sea on Tuesday 23 July. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) Super Stallion helicopters of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (VMM-265) "Dragons", which is part of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, touched down at "Camp Rocky" twice on Tuesday.
Local plane spotter Kayanne H captured the two Super Stallions that were noted wearing the tail codes EP-21 and EP-22. According to a well known online military serial number database, EP-21 could be 163078, while EP-22 could be 161388. The Super Stallions made for a spectacular sight as they were flying together, and they heard to be using the radio callsign "Dragon 12".
Meanwhile, Kayanne also captured a couple of images of the 'resident' Australian Army Sikorsky S-70A-9 Blackhawk helicopters and United States Navy (USN) Sikorsky HH-60H Seahawk helicopters, and their crews, for what seemed to be a 'class photo'!
Kayanne loves her plane spotting, and has recently purchased a new camera! I think you'll agree that she is capturing some fantastic images! Thanks Kayanne!
