Military Exercise Talisman Saber 2013: United States Marine Corps (USMC) Bell Boeing MV-22B Ospreys Land at Rockhampton Airport

What a day!

Finally, the rumoured appearance of United States Marine Corps (USMC) Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft came to fruition on Sunday 14 July, with two of the mighty aircraft touching down at Rockhampton Airport.

During the morning (and just when a rain shower rolled through) USMC MV-22B Osprey 168031 / EP-08 of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (VMM-265) "Dragons", which is part of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, arrived into Rockhampton as "Dragon 08".

It was later joined at Rockhampton Airport by fellow USMC MV-22B Osprey 168027 / EP-06 as "Dragon 06".

Later in the afternoon, both Ospreys departed Rockhampton Airport for "Camp Rocky" and then for parts unknown, flying together as "Dragon 06".

They certainly made for a very spectacular sight and I believe that their visit to Rockhampton is in fact the first time an Osprey has ever landed in Australia.
