Qantas and Jetstar Jointly Move on Flights into the Whitsundays from Melbourne

It was announced last week that it will be adding more than 15,000 seats a year to the Whitsunday Coast region as part of a dual brand revamp of its premium and low fare operations.

From Saturday 27 June, will introduce a twice-weekly return service between Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Hamilton Island Airport, operated by Boeing B737-800 aircraft.  This takes-over the the route from Jetstar Airways.

In turn, Jetstar will start operating a direct three-times weekly service between Melbourne (Tullamarine) and the Proserpine / Whitsunday Coast Airport with Airbus A320 aircraft from Thursday 25 June.

In a Qantas statement, the company explained that “Qantas customers now have a direct premium service from Melbourne to Hamilton Island, and Jetstar will offer the only low fares between Melbourne and the Whitsunday Coast Airport”, while the Jetstar CEO said he was impressed by the revitalisation taking place in Airlie Beach during a visit to the region in December 2014.
