During the afternoon on Wednesday 13 May, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing B737-7ES / E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft A30-006 was spotted on final before completing a missed approach at Longreach Airport.
It had flown up directly from RAAF Base Williamtown near Newcastle.
The Wedgetail then flew across to Hamilton Island Airport where it completed another missed approach.
A30-006 then returned 'home' to Williamtown.
A30-006 was heard to be using the radio callsign of "Mitchel 07".
