Atlass Aviation Vulcanair (Partenavia) P.68C VH-KBO Blows a Tyre and Closes Rockhampton Airport Main Runway Sunday

Local plane spotter Travis W was on hand at Rockhampton Airport during the afternoon on Sunday 12 July as locally-based Atlass Aviation Vulcanair (Partenavia) P.68C VH-KBO blew a tyre while landing on Rocky's main Runway 33.

For a period of time, Runway 15/33 was closed as VH-KBO sat on the runway, causing an inbound Virgin Australia flight from Brisbane to hold South of Rocky, and a Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) King Air to land on the shortened cross Runway 22 over the top of the Australian Army Blackhawk helicopters that are parked on the closed Eastern end (undershoot) of Runway 22.

The rear port-side tyre was promptly changed and VH-KBO was later able to re-start and taxi away to the General Aviation (GA) Apron for further attention.

Rockhampton's Runway 15/33 was re-opened and operations returned to normal shortly after with Virgin Embraer E-190 VH-ZPI landing, followed a little later by one of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) which landed as "Unmanned Bluey 70".

Thanks to Travis for sending through these great photos!
