Late on Saturday 1 July, United States Air Force (USAF) Special Operations Squadron Lockheed MC-130J Hercules 12-5761 touched down at Rockhampton Airport from Cairns as "Spock 42".
After initially shutting down on Taxiway 'Juliette' for a short time, the Herc was eventually parked on the Northern Military Hardstand at Rockhampton Airport and appeared to be staying for the night.
Designated as a MC-130J Commando II, 12-5761 is flown by the 17th Special Operations Squadron (17 SOS) and is part of the 353d Special Operations Group at Kadena Air Base in Japan. It was the reportedly the first ever MC-130J delivered to Kadena in late 2014.
